FIRE Tutoring for Upcoming Promotional Exams

F.I.R.E. is providing structured study support for members preparing for the upcoming Fire Captain and Assistant Chiefpromotional examinations. Support will include tutoring, guided study sessions, and mock assessment center preparation aligned with the Civil Service schedule.

Anticipated 2026 Fire Captain Timeline (Civil Service)

  • Reading list and study guide published: November 4, 2025
  • Job posting & registration: December 10, 2025
  • Orientation: February 11–12, 2026
  • Multiple choice exam: April 23, 2026
  • Assessment center: June 8–12, 2026

The Assistant Chief timeline has not yet been posted. Once Civil Service publishes the official schedule, F.I.R.E.’s tutoring and mock assessment dates will be aligned and shared with participants.

Eligibility for F.I.R.E.-Sponsored Prep

Per the F.I.R.E. Policy Book, members must:

  • Be a dues-paying F.I.R.E. member for at least 6 months prior to the written test, and
  • Have completed at least 4 hours of F.I.R.E.-sanctioned community service in the 12 months prior to the exam.

These requirements apply to all F.I.R.E.-sponsored tutoring and mock assessment activities.

External Assessor Opportunities (Skill-Building)

Serving as an assessor in other agencies’ processes is an excellent way to build assessment-center skills from the other side of the table.
